Mailbox Size Discrepancy with Outlook 2007 and Exchange 2003 SP2
I am having some issues because users are showing in Outlook a lesser amount of mail versus Exchange System Manager. I am at the latest Service Pack. I did check the other threads and suggestions.
THanks

ESM is always going to show more because Deleted Items Retention is taken into account. Have you looked at that and excluded it already?

Mark,
That make sense that some of it will be due to Deletion Item Retention.
However in this particular case, the Exchange Server said/says it has 117xxx kb, we physically moved to a PST file 72xxx kb, and i am sure some was deleted. Even after a reboot, the Exchange server said it had 117xxx or so, and as a result user unable
to send mail.
I was hoping for a quick way of synching OUtlook's Data File size with the server's. I was thinking of removing Cached mode temporarily, and then re -enabling it.
Thanks

Stop Outlook and delete (or rename) the current .OST file. Then
restart Outlook and let Outlook sync the OST with the mailbox.
What you're describing sounds like a problem with the OST file.

Hi MTJ,
Any update for your issue?
Rich gave a goode suggestion.
If to me,
1.I would change the account's mailbox limitation to let the account could send/receive email firstly.
2.delete the email through OWA and make a test.
Regards!

Ok. I renamed the .ost. I then restarted Outlook. It created a new .ost file. I checked folder size in outlook shows around 11MB for local, and also for server. However the mailbox in Exchange 2003 system manager shows 120MB.

If you take the Outlook client out of cached-mode does it show the
120MB mailbox size?
Are there any errors in the Sync Issues folders?
Does moving the mailbox to another database fix the problem of having
different sizes reported? Does that change the size reported by the
ESM?
If you can't move the mailbox you should try running isinteg on the
database with the "-test alltests, rowcounts" set of tests.

Rich,
I have removed her from being in cached mode. The size is still wrong in System Manager.
I will plan on moving her mailbox sometime after hours, and check it again tommorrow. Will post back then.
Thanks

I finally got the opportunity to move her mailbox to another server. The mailbox size on the original server was 134MB, on the other server 24MB which is what Outlook shows.
I have since run the cleanup agent on the original Mailstore, and now i have a Red X next to her mailbox. I however cannot purge it because it says it is in use.
Anything else i can try?
Thanks

I moved the mailbox from Exchange#1 to Exchange #2. The user now connects via Outlook to Exchange #2. There is a mailbox on Exchange #2 with a size of 27Mb. There is also a mailbox for the same user on Exchange #1 with a size of 132Mb,
and since i ran mailbox cleanup, it also has a red "X" on it.
Since i don't want to have a wasted mailbox, i was trying to purge it.
However it does not let me purge it and says "The operation cannot be performed because this mailbox was already reconnected to an existing user"

There's no problem accessing the mailbox on the new server, is there?
The mailbox on the original server will (or should) disappear when the
deleted mailbox expiry interval is reached.
If you're impatient, you can move the mailbox BACK to the original
mailbox database. The attempt to move the mailbox will fail, but it
will remove the "stub" mailbox left behind from the original move.

You're not "wasting" anything. :-)
