Mailbox Search Fails
Hi, We have Exchange 2007 SP2. AD 2003. When a users searches a particular word within the message body, the search does not return any result. We forwarded the same e-mail to the same mailbox and searched again, it then shows the result. These messages are delivered to the mailbox from the internal SAP mailing system. Not sure if it is to do with the message type. Format is "us-ascii" I moved a test mailbox to the same store, and I do not find any issue with the search on the test mailbox. I also came across rebuilding the index. Not sure, if that will fix the issue. If that is fix, does is required to bring down the store? Any data loss?

Sounds to me like rebuilding the index is the issue since you said that you can forward the same us-ascii based message and all works well What version of Exchange are you running Shouldn't bring down the store to rebuild the index (assuming the box is healthy etc) but most assuredly it will impact performance Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Hi Troy, Thank you for your reply. We are running Exchange 2007 SP2. I forwarded the message to the same mailbox (self), it then works. Is this indexing issue? Is Index rebuilding specific to the message format? Should I run agains the store? How much time will it take?

What Service Pack Level are you on? Before you do anything I would patch your Exchange Server completely i.e. SP3 etc Have you tried Deleting the profile and OST on the client and rebuilding it? I heard of one instance where by installing Windows instant search on the desktop client and then reinstalling it, then rebuilt the index fixed the issue. TO Rebuild the Indexes follow this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995966(EXCHG.80).aspx and as far as how long it will take, thats really dependent upon the hardware, DB size, mailbox count, # of folders, items etc, etc. Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

Hi TechnoPower, Above gave some good suggestion, in my opinion, it seems related with the outlook end, try the method 2. Regards!
