Mailbox Database Doubled In Size In Less Than 36 Hours
Exchange Server 2010 SP1 (Enterprise) In the past 36 hours my mailbox DB went from a little under 200GB to almost 450GB, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why. We are a relatively small company, and nothing has changed on the Exchange Server recently in any way. I don't see any problems in the event logs, and using TreeSize I can see that the Mailbox Database file is taking up all the space. How can I start to figure out what caused this? What are some things I can do to clean this up? I have very little experience troubleshooting Exchange problems such as this so any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Please check database file size and the log file size, also let know about your exchange server backup practise.

Hi, Download EXMON and check if you see any abnormal activity. I've seen this problem before and the problem has then been with EAS Devices creating duplicates (read thousands of calendar and/or contacts items)Martina Miskovic

Hi 1. You can read this KB. An Exchange Server 2010 database store grows unexpectedly large http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2621266 2. I believe that it is one orrupt user cause this kind of problem. Log grows very fast. You can use exmon to find this user. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-ZA/exchange2010/thread/11fc056d-360c-431e-b2ee-a28a6b103a53 Terence Yu TechNet Community Support

The actual resolution to this problem, was to install Exchange 2010 SP2 with Rollup Update 1. I ended up opening a case with Microsoft and this is a known issue (I was told) with Exchange 2010 SP1. My blog post about the issue and all the troubleshooting that I did before calling Microsoft is here in case it helps someone else: http://theonemanitshow.blogspot.com/2012/06/exchange-2010-database-rapidly.html
