Mail to Internet in a Exchange 2010-2007 coexistence scenario
Hi everybody, I have Exchange 2007 SP2. One mailbox server, one CAS and one HUB tranport. I deployed in the same domain in a coexistence scenario Exchange 2010 with one mailbox server and a collocated CAS and HUB transport server; and in addittion I have one Exchange 2007 Edge server facing to Internet for both versions. I have thoroughly reviewed the next article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd346708.aspx Routing mail Exchange 2007 <--> Exchange 2010 works fine. However, mails sent to Internet from mailboxes in Exchange 2007 cannot reach their destination domain. I can see that the mails reach the Exchange's 2007 hub transport queue but they just simply sit there until they are discarded. On the other hand, this doesn't happens to mails sent to Internet to those connected to Exchange 2010, they are gracefully routed to the 2007 Edge server and reach their destination. Where do you suggest me to look for to solve this routing issue with Exchange 2007 coexistence? Thanks in advance. MC

Have you subscribed the Exchange 2007 server to the Edge server? Can the Exchange 2007 server see the Edge server? Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources

Yes, I subscribed the Edge server from the Exchange 2010 HUB Transport and, yes the Exchange 2007 HUB Transport can see the Edge 2007 server, it can resolve its DNS name and open a Telnet session on port 25. As far as I understand you have to subscribe the Edge server only once, and the connector appears in both EMC. Any light you can shed on this issue is very much appreciated. MC.

Hi, What's the error information in the Queue? Did you enable the Protocol Logging on the Send Connector on the Exchange Hub Server? Then try to send one test email, and collect the log on the Exchange 2007 Hub and post here. Additionally, you can run get-sendconnector and post the results. Thanks Allen Allen Song

If you have working edge subscription, than try disable SMTP connector on Exchange 2007 server that send mail to internet. These will force eventually, that root traffic to Exchange 2010 HUB server.

Hi, I enabled the Protocol Logging on the Send Connector and went to the Queue to see the error. I did see the error but when I was preparing to copy the text, suddenly the message disappeared and the mail was successfuly delivered to the mailbox in Internet. Nothing was logged. Probably the modification to enable Logging in the send connector had some effect. I really don't know what happened, but now is working. Weird! I'll keep watching it and any change I'll keep you posted. MC
