Mail Restore failed when using ExTRA to merge mailbox from RSG
I am attempting to recover a single mailbox from a RSG using the ExTRA merge mailbox tool in Exchange 2007 with Update Rollup 8 on Windows 2003 R2.On running the merge mailbox tool, I am selecting tomerge to a folder of a dummy user (Mail Restore) I have created for this. The merge runs for about 10 minutes, and as it is running, I can even see the messages in the dummy mailbox being created as this runs. However when the task completes the messages and folders that have been created in the dummy mailbox, are deleted. The task in ExTRA says it has completed successfully?!The App Eventshows:Event 1001:End copying mailbox contents from Recovery Storage Group\Mailbox Database to MRestore on server (blah).thenEvent 1008:The restore-mailbox task for mailbox 'Mail Restore' failed. Error: Failed to copy messages to the destination mailbox store with error: The operation was cancelled. I then get several additional event messages:Event 1025:An error occurred on database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Database".Function name or description of problem: EcGenerateReadReport: Error: 0x80070005 Error 1025:An error occurred on database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Database".Function name or description of problem: EcGenerateNRN: Error: 0x80070005I have read the KB here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899393- but this does not refer to Exchange 2007.I have run this merge several times, and am getting the same result. Anyone have any ideas? It also seems that everytime I run this, the Exchange database increases in size?! Despite the fact the restored messages do not show anywhere?!

Hi, Try below command in EMS with your parameters. Restore-Mailbox -identity "Target Mailbox" -RSGDatabase "Recovery Storage Group\RSG Datastore" -RSGMailbox "Mailbox to be restored" -TargetFolder "Folder in -Identity to place data in" -BadItemLimit "Int32" RegardsChinthaka

Thanks Chinthaka.I have used the EMS instead of the ExTRA GUI, and yes, this has worked. Amazing that the GUI fails and the good old "command line" has done the trick.Cheers,Mark
