Mail Archive Related Questions
i have some Qs regarding mail archive 1- how often is the mail boxes checked against archive policy - for example when i enable mail archive for a user, items that comply with the policy will be moved immediately to the archive MB or there is a time frame for the server to check and apply the policy and move the items 2- i have a separate DB for archive in exch2010 & i assigned quota on the DB level 5 GB so if it quota is reached will it start deleting from the archive MB or it will stop archiving 3- why when i enable archiving for a user the icon for Assign Policy doesn't show directly - any idea how long does it take to appear 4- to make things easier i go to archive policy in ESM and i go to mailboxes tab and start adding mailboxes that i want to archive - by default their archive mbs will be in the same DB of their mailboxes so does that means that after i finish i have to make move requests to all archive MBs to the archive DB and if yes is there a command for that 5- once i disable archive does the archive MB gets deleted 6- is there a way to view the archive MB 7- thank you

What do you mean by mail archive? Seriously, it's a lot easier to answer your questions when you use standard terminology. In addition, it's best if you do your own research by reading the documentation on TechNet before posting questions. A lot of what you need to know is in the documentation.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

thank you personal mail archive feature in MS exchange 2010 i am reading a lot of TechNets and related documentations but it is not always covering all information as you can see from my questions they are not related to initial setup, they are related to real life scenarios that i am testing in my labs and i am sure someone else worked in or tested so he can give answers this is one of the Qs i got an answer for in MS documents 2- i have a separate DB for archive in exch2010 & i assigned quota on the DB level 5 GB so if it quota is reached will it start deleting from the archive MB or it will stop archiving answer: it will not delete it will stop moving items to archive MB i just find this forum a big help and it really makes my life easier:) looks like i am getting lazy these days :) so thanks for the hint

The personal mail archive is just a second mailbox associated with the first mailbox. Users can move mail from the primary mailbox to the archive mailbox. The archive mailbox can be in a different mailbox database or in the same one. What's useful about the personal archive is that it doesn't synchronize to your offline folders, so you can keep a lot of data there that you don't have to carry around on your computer in a huge PST.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

1- one day Get-MailboxServer | FT Name,ManagedFolderW* 2- it will stop moving mails to archive mailbox and log a warring 3- you need to wait for one day or run Start-ManagedFolderAssistant <MailboxIdentity>. 4- the policy will not enable archive for the user - add the user to the policy - then you can go and enable archiving and choose the DB 5- no it is disconnected and be connected back within 30 days (default deleted mailboxes retention policy) can be changed by Set-MailboxDatabase -Identity MBX01 -MailboxRetention 45 6- only form command Get-MailboxStatistics -Identity mahero -Archive 7- welcome
