MailBox Manager in Exchange 2003
Ihave aquestion regarding mailbox manager in exchange 2003 SP2 running on Windows 2003 SP2, AD2003. I have noticed that our mailbox manger cleaning jobs do not always delete messages on our exchange server correctly. Mailbox manager runs correctly and appears to be doing the right thing 99.~% of the time. But i will come accross a message in a users mail box under deleted or sent or some other folder contained within their main mailbox that has not been deleted by the automated cleaning job. The message may be very old (2003) and the cleaning job is set to delete messages older than 7 days. There is no continuity to where or why this message did not get deleted. We clean all mail related folders in users mailboxes -excluding calendar, sticky notes, posts and appointments. The message that is not being deleted is a mail item -not one of the excluded item types. Has anyone come across anything like this and do you have any solutions i could -try short of opening744 mailboxes and countless subfolders to find these orphaned messages and get rid of them? thanks in advance for your assistance.

Mailbox Manager needs to see the correct combination of MAPI properties on a mail item before acting on it. If any of these are missing, it will ignore the mail item. The following article provides more information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302804 You could maybe try to examine the MAPI properties on one of the problem mail items to see what might be missing. OutlookSpy would give you the ability to do this: http://www.dimastr.com/outspy/ Tony
