Mail-enabled Public Folders Not showing as Mail-enabled
We have completely migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 (SP1 Rollup 5). Many, but not necessarily all, of ourmail-enabled public folders do not appear to be mail enabled in either the 2007 PF Management Console or the Shell, yet they are mail-enabled in the 2003 System Manager and we can send email to them. If we mail-enablea folder in the EMC, it blows away any previous email addresses and creates a new one.Any reccomendations on how to get 2007 to accurately display the properties of these folders??

This issue has been neglected for quite some time. I did do as suggested and when comparing the two folders in ADSIEDIT, there are no significant differences - certainly none that would seem to have an effect on whether a folder would appear as mail-enabled or not. Despite being a pure Eschange 2007 environment, we have had to keep the Exchange 2003 System Manager around as one of our mgmt tools because of this issue.

Are there any other updates on this? I have the same issue and have to keep going back and forth between the '03 and '07 consoles. I am not re-enabling any of our folders for mail but I also do not want to rely on the 2003 console anymore. ADSIedit see's the mail attributes but the '07 console or management shell do not....

We are also getting the same issue. We basically cannot deccommission our old Exchange 2003 server because of this problem. Any updates would be appreciated.

How do you know the folder is mail-enabled if it isn't showing as
mail-enabled???
Try to mail-DISable the folder. If the folder's SMTP proxy address
isn't in the AD then someone, or something, removed the AD
representation of the folder from the Microsoft Exchange System
Objects folder.
If you need the folder to be mail-enabled then you can mail-enable it
again.

Hi Rich, sorry for delayed reply on this. The public folder is mail-enabled because I can see the mail attributes in ADSIEdit. The problem is that Exchange 2010 doesn't allow me to manage the object. For example if try to disable-mailpublicfolder it
comes back saying that it is already mail-disabled. See Shell output below:
[PS] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts>Get-MailPublicFolder clarearchive

[PS] C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts>Disable-MailPublicFolder clarearchive

Public Folders are "interesting", aren't they? :-)
ADSI looks at the Active Directory (I'm assuming you're looking in the
Microsoft Exchange System Objects folder?), as does the
get-mailpublicfolder, but the disable-mailpublicfolder looks to see if
the public folder attribute is set on the folder in the database
before it un-sets it and then removes the AD object in the MESO
container.
So, if the public folder says it's not mail-enabled you should be able
to remove the object from the MESO container and then the public
folder and AD will be in agreement.
FWIW, this has been an "issue" with public folders since Exchange
2000. It's usually something that goes wrong during a migration or
transition that leaves these stragglers behind.
