MS Word  2010, Windows 7 64 bit

I have received an error in Word 2010 several times while trying to close a document. The error reads:

"This document cannot be closed because it is referenced by an open VBA project. You should close the project that references this document before closing this document".

I do not have any VBA projects open, didn't open a project, or reference this document in a project. I have no idea why I'm receiving this error.

I have received this error three times in the last week.

Seems I am not clear to explain my issue, let me try again

If I have more then one or two document open and none is reffered to any project neither I have project open, and if try to close any document
3 to 4 time I will get error saying

"This document cannot be closed because it is referenced by an open VBA project. You should close the project that references this document before closing this document".

Can any one help as I have searched on internet and could not find any answere for this one.

Would you by any chance, be opening the files from a a Sharepoint 2007 Library?

Do you have custom date field in use?  Have you  noticed if the date/timestamp changes?

Are the files saved in binary (.doc) or xml (.docx) format?

There is a  known issue at this time, if you are opening a document and saving the document properties to some Sharepoint servers, the server date drops back one day.

At this time if the Word document is saved in the 97- 2003 format the issue occurs. The only workaround is to save the file in the 2007 format.
More Information The issue only seems to affect the date field.

I am not using any 2007 Sharepoint library.

 

All the files were .doc (working in compatibility mode in Word 2010), and I don’t think they are using a custom date field (there are no date fields in the document that automatically get updated if that’s what you mean).

I have exactly the same problem. I just opened a document (.doc) in my newly installed word 2010 from teh server to LOOK at it (no changes made). Now I cannot close it. You sure make me laugh expecting me to get paid help to the tune of several hundred dollars. Fix the program I already paid for dearly!

Same problem. Word 2010 32-bit on Windows 7 64-bit, new machine. Patched and up-to-date. No SharePoint. Managed to save as a new file but then had to kill Word (hoho). Come on, this is clearly an MS not user problem, so get it figured and sorted MS... Just hoping a rare prob...

I am guessing that this error is unique to 64-bit users?

Has it been reported by 32-bit users?

Happens with Windows 7 32-bit, Word 2007 SP3

No project available to be closed.  This is a WORD document that I created by pasting from multiple other documents.  The other documents have all been opened, edited and closed several times with no problem, but the combined document just refuses to close.   Nothing to do with Sharepoint.  No server involved.

Hi presume you have solved this problem by now. As a new user of the Office Prof (Word 2013) the new layout is driving me crazy. I too had this VBA Project message along with ActiveX, neither of which mean anything to me. I tried endless times to get the document to save without success. The solution I found was to copy and paste into a new document then it saved no problem. Hope all's ok now!!

I don't have an answer, but I have run across this problem, too.

There is a bit faster way than rebooting, which is to open Task Manager, highlight the Word application, and click "End Task." But this is still not really an acceptable solution.

I found a question in Google Groups from 1999 about this same issue. No solution 16 years later.
