MS Exchange Server 2010 SP1, GALSynch and Federation
In the near future maybe I have to create a GAL synchronization between a brand-new Exc 2010 SP1 Outside Organization (migrated from Lotus Notes 8) and my organization (yet running Lotus Notes 8, but i´m almost certain that we´ll migrate to MS Exch 2010 SP1 too) I don´t need to share calendar, free/busy and other things, the only feature i need is GAL integration without AD trusts. In Lotus Notes 8 we have a Domino Directory integration to allow users to see all e-mails addressess in a single list and if both environments were migrated to MS Exc 2010 SP1, users will like to see a unified GAL The new federation feature can be used to do that? It´s a MS Service? How about the cost/licensing? I can create a IPSec VPN if desired. All users (in my side) will be using Outlook 2007 and 2010 and in the other side have some Outlook 2003 too. GALSYnch is an option?

Hiya, Federated Sharing doesn't and won't provide GAL syncronisation or visibility. Federated Sharing provides the ability to share Calendar, Contacts and Free/Busy which you've said you don't need. The gateway provided by MS provides the trust "gateway" then the orgs communicate. For directory sync between the Exchange orgs, something based on ILM/FIM would provide a good option for GAL Sync. Apart from MS Solutions there are a number of Quest solutions, for example, that will assist too, both with Notes migration and co-existance.
