Hi Recently I came across an error to start MSExchnageEvent Service on Exchange 2003. The service type is set to Manual and when I tried to start the service, I got the message,"The Microsoft Exchange Event service on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do. ..."When I checked in the events, following event was reported:Event Type:ErrorEvent Source:MSExchangeESEvent Category:General Event ID:5Date:6/2/2009Time:12:12:11 PMUser:N/AComputer:PS_E2K3_SETUPDescription:An unexpected MAPI error occurred. Error returned was [0x80004005].I followed one of the posts in this forum, http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/f5642010-089c-4564-a890-af94c515972aThe post says, by LRM"I did some simulation of the case and you were right. It will automatically stop when the system does not need it, and will be started if the system needs it." I have following question:I would like to seeexchange event servicerunning on exchange server. WHat operations I need to do on exchange so that Exchange event service starts execution?Your help will be appreciated. Many thanks

From http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124673(EXCHG.65).aspxExchange Event serviceThe Exchange Event service monitors folders and triggers events for server scripts that are compatible with Exchange Server5.5. This service is required only when you are running Exchange Server5.5 compatible applications on a server running Exchange Server2003. It is disabled by default. This service depends on the Exchange Information Store service. The executable file is Events.exe, which resides in the \Program Files\Exchsrvr\Bin directory. The registry key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeES.So, if you don't have Exchange 5.5 or any Exchange 5.5. compatible applications running on your Exchange 2003 server, you should not be worried about the service not starting. The being said, the error you are getting in event log is discussed in KB 867641. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/867641Bhargav Shukla - MSFT - Exchange Reference: Exchange Server 2007 TechCenter - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124558.aspx; Exchange Server 2003 TechCenter - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123872(EXCHG.65).aspx; Microsoft Exchange Team Blog - http://msexchangeteam.com/default.aspx
