MS Exchange 2003 Blocking Email Addresses
Hi, Could somebody help me on the following problem. My manager has a problem where he has emails being sent to his personal mailbox. Instead he wants all email that is sent to his personal mailbox blocked as emails should be sent through our main mailbox not our personal mailbox. How can I block these external email addresses? If i wanted to add one external email address that is allowed to send to his personal mailbox how could I do this? My knowledge of exchange is quite little at the moment. Thanks, Colin

1. Go the properties on your manager's account (Users and computers, do this on the exch server) and under Exchange General Tab configure the Delivery Restrictions>Message Restrictions. 2. Alternatively, configure Outlook rules to either forward emails from these senders to the main mailbox.Sukh

Hi, Follow the guilde below: http://www.petri.co.il/block_incoming_internet_mail_to_specific_users_or_groups.htm you can choose "Only from" and add the account who is allowed to send mail to this user. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

Hi, If i wanted to put an email address in the 'only from', how is this done? As this is pointed to the users on our network. I want to specify the email address for which they can send emails to? Hope that makes sense Colin

1. If you want to control who can send emails to the manager, it would best to configure the'only from' or 'from everyone except' on the manager object. 2. As your issue seems to be external users sending emails to the manager (as posted in your first post) then it would probably be a better option to use 'from everyone except' out of the 2, as there's more likely to be less users you want to restrict than to send.Sukh

Ok, basically he wants all external email addresses blocked but just one external email address to be accepted through to us. Is there an easier way of doing this? From what I can see, I cant input an email address in that would allow one particular email address to be accepted. Colin

With Exch 2003 this would be difficult to block ALL except one external sender. With Exch 2007/2010 you could have used transport rules to achieve this.Sukh

Hi, 1. create a contact for your external email address in ADUC 2. add this contact in "only from" list. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. My understanding here is the requirements is ONLY for ALL External bar one.Sukh

Hi, Thanks for your message. After doing what Jason suggested, it looks as though all external contacts are blocked & i have just asked our client (the one who wants to be able to send emails direct to my manager) to try to send an email to my manager to see if this gets through. Hopefully all should be ok. Colin

Sukh Hi, If you want all the internal users can also send to your manager's mailbox, you can create a security group and add all the internal mailbox users into this group. And then add this security group into "only from" list. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
