Our CAS servers with SP2 Rollup 3 have these error throughout the day. It seems the .net the RPCClientAccess service keep crashing. Any idea what caused these errors? We don't have any special character in our database name. We have seen these 4999 errors for more than a year. SP1 RU5 fixed one or two but the .net and RPC remain. I suspect it has something to do with the sporadically mailbox freeze that random user are experiencing. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrclients/thread/a112680e-2839-451d-b571-22e846d5af77/#6dfeb568-4368-4bc1-99b6-c73ab0e23433

Hi Invalid user context cookie found in proxy response" error message and an event ID 4999 occur when you use an Exchange 2010 SP2 CAS server as a proxy to an Exchange 2007 CAS server. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2696649 Is it helpful to your issue? Our two errors do not seem to relate to M.E.Clients.Owa, We had this problem before SP2, we was hoping SP2 will resolve this problem. We do not have Exchange 2007.

Hi Do you enable Forefront on exchange 2010? Do you update it to last version? I find someone disabled / reinstall FF and solve the problem. Terence Yu TechNet Community Support

No, we don't use Forefront, we use Scanmail. I am actually looking at SP1 for Scanmail.

Hi If it is convenient, you can disable scanmail one day and find result. Many event 4999 errors are caused by antivirus or AD connection.Terence Yu TechNet Community Support

Good idea, I think we can afford a few hours without AV scanning.

I stopped all three scanmail services on one of the CAS/HT. I still see below in just 30 minutes. Sadly, the timing of the error also correlated to a mailbox freeze. Hi According to your 4999 error, I can't find clue of mailbox freeze. Maybe you can open support case from MS.Terence Yu TechNet Community Support

Any way to fix for the two 4999 errors? Do you know what might caused those mailbox freezes? The problem is not widespread and seems to affect one mailbox at a time for a few minutes. I even move the affected users to a very relax throttling policy (used by BES) and they still have problem. I increased the throttling logging to max on the CAS servers a few weeks ago but nothing is logged yet. I just did the same to the MBX and HT roles. Does the change require a reboot?

Hi If I meet this problem, I will export this mailbox to past and impost pst to this user again. export process will ignore broken email. If it doesn't work, I will remove user and recreate it again. Then I will import email to this account. If it doesn't work, it seems to be client issue. I will offer other desktop\laptop to user and test it again.Terence Yu TechNet Community Support

Some of these users are critical users, I am reluntant to do a export/import as they have lots of meeting request, probably as organizers too. I did ran the mailbox repair command with -coruptiontype searchfolder, aggregatecounts, provisionedfolder, folderview and all except one came back negative. Not a desktop/laptop issue for sure. When the problem occurs, users cannot OWA from another workstation, I cannot free/busy search on them too. iphone, Blackberry not syncing either. The whole mailbox is "freeze", usually it only last 1-2 minutes but worst case I seen 30+ minutes! It almost looks like Exchange throttling to me but I cannot see any error point to throttling. Do you think setting the logging level to high will catch more info?

Hi You can move these move these affect users to other database. You should get log when mailbox is freezed. The more infromation you have, the better.Terence Yu TechNet Community Support

I tried that with two of the users (move to a diff store). It seemed to help one user for a few months but the problem came back. For the other user, it made no difference. Any idea about the 4999 errors, esp the M.E.E.ExDateTime.AddDays out of range exception. This seems to correlate to many "freeze", having said that, this seems to logged almost hourly, so it maybe just an coincidence.

Hi I think it is mailbox problem not rpc service problem. When rpc service can't access mailbox or meet problem, event 4999 will be logged. (cas cpu 100%,memeory 100%,network problem. "M.E.E.ExDateTime.AddDays out of range exception" It involves source code. You can open ticket from MS or ask similar question to msdn forum.Terence Yu TechNet Community Support
