MIcrosoft Exchange Server Extension for Windows Server Backup Service keeps stopping
As it says in the title, the service keeps stopping for no good reason where it hasn't in the past. As far as I know it has only started since I had a new UPS fitted last Friday and they installed Powerchute software to control it. I have been told by the suppliers that this could not have caused this problem. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well, if you take out the PowerChute software and the problem goes away, you'll pretty much know that the vendor is wrong.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Thanks for the reply. I removed it on Friday and am still getting the problem. I've also set the recovery option to restart the service but that doesn't seem to work either.

Microsoft Exchange Server Extension for Windows Server Backup is installed only on the node that /upgradecms is run from when Exchange 2007 SP 2 is installed. Could you please reinstall the service as the following setups? 1. Remove the Windows Server Backup Features via Server Manager. 2. Copy and paste the following text to a new Powershell script (e.g. enable_wsbexchange.ps1), then execute the script from the Exchange Management Shell: $WsbBinPath="c:\program files\microsoft\exchange server\bin\wsbexchange.exe" if ((get-service wsbexchange* | where {$_.name -eq "wsbexchange"})) { if ((get-service wsbexchange).Status -eq "Running") { sc stop wsbexchange } sc.exe delete wsbexchange } reg add "HKCR\CLSID\{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}" /t REG_SZ /d "CExchangeHelper Class" /f reg add "HKCR\CLSID\{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}" /v AppId /t REG_SZ /d "{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}" /f reg add "HKCR\CLSID\{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}\LocalServer32" /t REG_SZ /d "$WsbBinPath" /f reg add "HKCR\APPID\{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}" /t REG_SZ /d "CExchangeHelper Class" /f reg add "HKCR\APPID\{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}" /v LocalService /t REG_SZ /d "wsbexchange" /f reg add "HKCR\APPID\{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}" /v LaunchPermission /t REG_BINARY /d "010004806000000070000000000000001400000002004c0003000000000014001f000000010100000000000512000000000018001f0000000102000000000005200 00000200200000000180003000000010200000000000520000000270200000102000000000005200000002002000001020000000000052000000020020000" /f reg add "HKCR\APPID\wsbexchange.exe" /v AppId /t REG_SZ /d "{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}" /f reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\WindowsServerBackup\Application Support\{76fe1ac4-15f7-4bcd-987e- 8e1acb462fb7}" /v "Application Identifier" /t REG_SZ /d Exchange /f reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\WindowsServerBackup\Application Support\{76fe1ac4-15f7-4bcd-987e- 8e1acb462fb7}" /v CLSID /t REG_SZ /d "{D8A2E312-3B17-4293-B71E-CD72A7C04BF3}" /f reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\WSBAppExchangeHelper" /v AutoMarkDbRecoverable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f reg add "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\WSBAppExchangeHelper" /v AutoMountOnPITRecovery /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f sc.exe create wsbexchange binpath= $WsbBinPath type= own start= demand error= ignore obj= LocalSystem DisplayName= "Microsoft Exchange Server Extension for Windows Server Backup" sc.exe description wsbexchange "Enables Windows Server Backup users to back up and recover application data for Microsoft Exchange Server." 3. OK I have tried to run this but I have got an error saying: You must provide a value expression on the right hand side of the '/' operator. At C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts\enable_wsbexchange.ps1:18 char:129 + 0000020020000000180003000000010200000000000520000000270200000102000000000005 200000002002000001020000000000052000000020020000" /f <<<< Please advise what I should do here. Many thanks.

I have also tried the script from the link provided which also fails, but this time with a message about incorrect use of the Register parameter. Any and all advise is needed and will be gratefully received.

OK, I have got the Microsoft script to start running (apparently you have to add -Register after you type Register-WSBExchange to get it running. Why couldn't they have said that on their instructions?!?) but it is returning the error: Add-PSSnapin : Windows PowerShell snap-in Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Setup is not installed on the machine. At C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts\Register-WSBExchange.ps1:171 char:15 + Add-PSSnapin >>>> "Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Setup" It then goes on to say : Now installing WSBExchange... The term 'Start-SetupProcess' is not recognised as a cmdlet, function, operable program or script file. Verify the term and try again. Which it then repeats over and over again with different instances where it is called. The second part of the error might be cured if I can find out how to install the PSSnapin, can anybody help me out with this please. (Also, I'd welcome any advice regarding any of this from someone who understands it.) Thanks in advance.
