Lync 2013 repeatedly registers SideBySide Error Event ID 35 on 64-bit machines

Ever since the September updates were released for click-to-run Lync 2013, all of our 64-bit machines register this error multiple times throughout the day:

Activation context generation failed for "c:\program files\microsoft office 15\root\office15\lync.exe.Manifest".Error in manifest or policy file "c:\program files\microsoft office 15\root\office15\UccApi.DLL" on line 1. Component identity found in manifest does not match the identity of the component requested. Reference is UccApi,processorArchitecture="AMD64",type="win32",version="15.0.0.0". Definition is UccApi,processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32",version="15.0.0.0". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

I gather from the message that there is some problem with the 32-bit version of the app being installed on a 64-bit machine. Anyone know what exactly the problem is h

Hi,

It seems you are facing the same issue mentioned in the thread below:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/9e18d31f-158a-446b-bfca-31cebd3e75fb/lync-crashes-with-sidebyside-error-35?forum=lyncprofile

Let's try if a repair of Office can fix this issue:

First please unregister uccapi.dll: C:\program files\microsoft office 15\root\office15\UccApi.DLL

(Note: The Unregister command must be run from command prompt with Admin privileges.)

Then go to Control Panel -> Programs and Features to repair the installation of Office(or Lync), restart the computer to check the result.

Every time I try to unregister the DLL, the "Microsoft Register Server" crashes:

The command I used was:

regsvr32 /u "c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\uccapi.dll"

I ran it from both the System32 and the SysWOW64 directories, same result.

I couldn't use the "unregister" command (not recognized).

Hi,

Please make sure you have run the command prompt with the Administrator Permission, would you please double confirm this?

Also, if the dll can't be registered, go ahead with the repair, check if this helps.

Still receiving same error message multiple times daily, even after doing the repair. Also installed this month's Office updates and still receiving same message.

It seems like an unresolved bug, yet I haven't seen any post of an official fix.

You can refer to this thread and read WestcoastJim's post, at least it's a fix for him.

We had this problem crop up on a few Win 7 machines  recently. Skype for Business wouldn't even start. Outlook 365 would open, but opening anything would hang Outlook.

Go to Control Panel, Mail, Profiles, Delete the profile. Add the profile back in.  Log in, and Outlook works again, and Skype works too!

I fixed my issue few mins back. It was resolved by uninstalling the following security fixes

KB3054791
KB3039779

Note: I had same issue on two different instances, So the above updates are from each instance where uninstalling them resolved the issue for me.

Hope this helps !!
