Log File Replay using Recovery Storage Group Restore
We have an Exchange 2003 server in which we have restored a full database backup toa recovery storage group(shows as inconsistent as it was just restored and no log files played back yet). We use incremental backups throughout the week and have restored all of the incrementals we need. What we ran into was missing log files inbetween the logfile range as displayed by piping the header of the restore.env file information out. Using eseutil, we were able to see exactly what log files we were missing. Question: Is there a way to JUST replay a set of log files?I know the set HAS to be sequential. I thought it was possibleby changing the last log file name that you have to E00.log (since your backup does notbackup this file, but insteadrenames it to the last log file in your sequence), removing the checkpoint fileand running eseutil /cc against the log file directory; however the database needs to be in a consistent state. We have a "restored" thedatabase to the recovery storage group and no log file recovery has been run yet. Log file range = 1 - 100, but we ONLY need 50 - 100 We have 1 - 40. MISSING 41 - 49 and HAVE 50 - 100. Could we replay the FIRST set of log files 1-40 by renaming the 40th log file to E00.log, removing the restore.env fileand running eseutil /cc. I do not think we can do the last set of log files after the missing files, however can we just restore the incremental after the 'missing' log file set?Our issue is a bad tap ion the middle of our two fulls, however we do not think we need the log files on this tape, but we DO need the ones on the tapes AFTER this tape. Isthis possible in arecovery storage group situation? I imaginewe need to remove the restore.env file to do it, as it acts as the checkpoint file and contains the range that we do not want. Any information would be helpful Thanks NTNEWS
