Local and External URL
I'm new to here and am still learning how everything in IT is setup. I do know that we have two links on our webpage. One link will allow a user to log in to their email outside of the network and one link will allow the user to log into their email from within the network (or that's the way it's suppose to work). Recently, the links have been switching. When they click on the in network link, it brings them to the out of network link and vice versa. Does anyone have any ideas why this may be happening? Wouldn't it make more sense to just have one link that works both in network and out of network, and if so, how would I go about setting that up? We are running Exchange 2007 on Server 2003 R2.

Hi, Yes that can be done : You will need to modify the InternalURL parameter of the OWA virtual directory. Run this command: Set-OWAVirtualDirectory –Identity “owa (default web site)” -InternalURL https://mail.externaldomain.com/owa Ripu Daman Mina | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging | MCC

You could also achive this using split brain dns and use just one URL. For example: internal DNS server mail.domain.tld resolves 192.168.1.100 (or whatever interal ip of exch server) external DNS server mail.domain.tld resolves to 74.169.172.82 (or whatever Public IP of Exch server) Ask whoever set up the network if they have split brain DNS set upMiguel Fra / Falcon IT Services Computer & Network Support, Miami, FL Visit our Knowledgebase and Support Sharepoint Site

Thank you for your input. Unfortunately the person who set up the network has passed away. I did find two fields in the Exchange settings that are labeled Internal URL and External URL. I should just be able to put the same External URL in both of those fields correct?

Only if both the URLS you enter in those fields are resolvable in internal and external DNS and the associated certificate has the subject names that match those URLs.

Hi, > I should just be able to put the same External URL in both of those fields correct? You can set InternalURL and ExternalURL to the same value. Also you need to configure your DNS record both internally and externally. Finally, you can access OWA by using only one link. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
