Local/Server Size Difference
We use Exchange 2003 in an FE/******E topology.&n******sp; 99% of our clients are running Outlook 2003 in Exchange mode.&n******sp; The remaining 1% (a few admins) are running Outlook 2007 in cached mode. &n******sp; Several months ago, I had an issue where I couldn't send mail even though I was under my mail******ox size limit.&n******sp; When I checked folder size, it appeared that even though my local in******ox was under 500m******, it was over 650m****** on the server.&n******sp; To fix this, I emptied my in******ox into a PST and then moved it from the PST ******ack into my in******ox.&n******sp; That fixed the pro******lem. &n******sp; Today, a few other users contacted me with the same pro******lem.&n******sp; So a few questions: &n******sp; What causes this? Can it ******e avoided? Is there a server level fix? &n******sp; Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hi, Regarding server/local mailbox size difference issue, its not difficult for understanding it since Exchange server keeps the retention which will take some space. The retention used for recover deleted items, and the default retention days is 7 days. If you are the exchange administrator, you may need perform a offline defrag (eseutil /d) for your database store on Server to free space completely. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328804 Meanwhile, The current behavior should cause by the mailbox oversize to the limit size set on the Exchange Server, your end user should receive notice about the oversize warning before the mailbox closing. If you have anything unclear about it, please let me know. Regards, Jason
