Litigation Hold - Accessing the Information

I have no doubt this may sound like a newbie question, and perhaps that is because it is, but we are placing our users on litigation holds for 7 years. However, my question is how do we then access this information that is on hold. I realize that the information is saved in the dump folder, but I don't even know how to locate that. I can't find any information out there pertaining to this.

Step by step instructions would be very helpful.

Thanks in Advance!

Here is an article on how to accomplish that for 2010 and same would hold true for 2013   and note that this is a 2 part article http://www.msexchange.org/articles-tutorials/exchange-server-2010/compliance-policies-archiving/exchange-2010-litigation-hold-part1.html

You could also use something like MFCMAPI to access the Recoverable Items Folders or a 3rd party product liek Lucid8's DigiScope

Hi,

If a mailbox is placed on Litigation Hold, it preserves deleted mailbox items and records changes made to mailbox items. The deleted items would be placed in Purges folder and Versions folder. These folder arent visible to client users.

Generally, the deleted and changed items can be returned in a discovery search. In other words, we can create a Discovery Search to search the deleted items in mailbox which is on Litigation Hold:

If you want to recover the deleted items for client user, we can try to access the Purges folder by using Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Editor (MFCMAPI to have a try:
