Link to OWA in Outlook 2010

Hello

Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the link to OWA "access this account on the web" in Outlook 2010 under "File\account Settings".

OWA is disabled by default in our environment and so we don't want our users wasting their time by clicking on the link.  Does anyone know what MS decided to put this here?

I've searched TechNet and someone had asked a similar question but it was not answered correctly.

I imagine it will be Group Policy or Reg key somewhere.

Thanks very much.

Hello,

Ive considered if we can enable GPO to remove the Menu and Command Bar Items for Account settings from the Outlook side. However, I cannot get the Office ID to disable the URL shown under "Access this account on the web" in Outlook 2010. There is no other GPOs to do that either. This should be a product limitation.

After testing, we observed that the URL shown under "Access this account on the web" in Outlook 2010 is picked up from the external URL set for OWA . If the external URL is set to blank it picks it up from internal URL. Please confirm whether you are using internal URL or external URL.

Hence, I can provide a workaround that we can set the external URL and Outlook will pick this up as the URL shown under "Access this account on the web". After setting the external URL we can disable redirection using the below command

Set-OWAVirtualDirectory -RedirectToOptimalOWAServer $false

Have a good day.

Hello Tony and thanks for your answer.

We dont really want a link that fails, we want to remove the link completly.  Its not the biggest problem if it cannot be achived, but I wanted to ask the question all the same.

We dont use OWA externally, so Outlook 2010 is looking at our internal OWA link.

Thanks again.

I had a similar issue where I created multiple OWA sites and needed to remove the url.

What I did was removed the URLS completely by running the below for each CAS servers OWA Virtual Directory.

set-owavirtualdirectory <owa site> -InternalURL $null -ExternalURL $Null

It took a while for Outlook to pick the setting up but worked a treat.
