In MS word I want to create a reference to an image but with editable text.

For example, if I have the image with label "Image 1", i want to create a text reference to this image with a custom text, for example "this image" and not "Image 1" (obviously without changing label name).

Step 1: Select the image.

On the Insert tab of the ribbon, in the Links group, click Bookmark.

Specify a unique name for the bookmark, i.e. Image1, then click Add.

Step 2: Type the text this image (or whatever you want to use), then select this text.

On the Insert tab of the ribbon, in the Links group, click Hyperlink.

In the navigation pane on the left hand side of the Insert Hyperlink dialog, select Place in This Document.

Under Bookmarks, select the bookmark that you created in step 1 (Image1 in my example).

Make sure that Text to display is the text that you typed.

Click OK.
