Limit Mailbox to 1.5GB...Good Advice...
Good Day Guys, Based on my previous threads and reading a lot of information regarding ExMerge and some other utilities. My following threads are "ExMerge Usage Limit" and "Mailbox Store Default", Since We/I know that ExMerge has a limitation of copying or exporting content of each mailbox to PST have a limit to 2GB only and without using some other third party utility, Can I use the "Limits" at "Mailbox Store (<server_name>)" to set it to 1.5GB at "Issue warning at (KB)" to be able for me to continue to use ExMerge as one of my backup strategies "brick level backup and restore" so that it will not reach each of mailboxes to 2GB, I have with me a lab environment but I cannot make it to test to be able to find out not to reach it to 2GB and it will reach only at 1.5GB. I'm using Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition SP2. Any suggestions, recommendations, correction and advise it will be highly appreciated. Thanks and Regards, Cheers...

Personally I would have to ask why you feel the need to use exmerge as a back strategy at all. It is perfectly possible to run Exchange without any kind of item level recovery options, simply by good use of deleted item retention and fast backup/recovery options with the RSG. If you find that you are using a PST based backup solution frequently then you need to look at how you are operating Exchange. I have been using Exchange for many years (I have been an Exchange MVP for over five) and I can count on one hand the number of times an item level backup might have been useful, but I was still able to operate without. I don't consider exmerge to be any kind of back solution. You have said you are on standard edition, therefore you can only go to 75gb store. With a decent backup, recovery of the entire store to an RSG will not take long at all. If you are using DIR correctly, then a recovery will only be required for very old content. If the user has missed it for 30 days, then another hour isn't going to make much difference. Whether a limit is a good thing to do or not is hard to say. Personally I would say not. If you limit users then they will simply store the content elsewhere, in personal PST files. These can get lost and corrupted easily and are almost impossible to backup. The data will be effectively gone anyway. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Good day Simon, Yes Simon you are all right I have been aware of Standard Edition which only have the 75GB of store but I have a hard times to convince them to buy all of those modern backup equipment I know about NAS, iSCSI, EVA, HP Library, Legato, Data Protector, Veritas, Servers, SAN, etc and also to buy at least Exchange Server Enterprise Edition which we know that we have a 8000GB or 8TB of store or upgrade to the latest Exchange Server 2007 or Exchange Server 2010, actually I have a lot of proposals with them but they only say we don't have any budget or money for that. Apologize for the internal feelings, problems I would hope that all of my objectives and proposals will be granted if something happens with sad situation but we/I don't like to happend with sad situation for me I have prepared and anticipate my self for all migration to be happen if they will upgrade all of these but for now I have also ready my self in order to stay them up and running. Thanks and Regards Guys. Cheers...

If you set a limit on mailboxes and users will archive onto a local PST file on their desktop, you may want to backup these PST files using an automatic and incremental backup software like EdgeSafe PST2PST Backup (http://www.datamills.com).
