Licensing Confusion

Hi,

I have a client that is looking to install Exchange 2013 and posted a question to me that had me baffled. They want to have two servers in HA (Client Access, Mailbox, and Hub Transport on each server with failover for each role). 1200 Mailboxes and 750 client devices on the network.

The confusion for me comes when they said that only 550 of these client devices would typically connect to Exchange so they suggested that they only need 550 device CALs.

I may be mistaken but wouldn't you need 750 CALs since potentially 750 clients can connect to the Exchange server? Or is it a case where you only need to have the number of CALs for the amount of devices that will be connecting?

Regards,

Krisna

You should really talk to your Microsoft Licensing Rep they're better equipped to answer licensing questions than anyone here on the forums.
