Laptop empties Inbox when sync'ing with Exchange Server Account
I have been successfully accessing my emails from an Exchange Server using Outlook 2003 from a number of desktops and laptops. I set up another account on the same service for my wife. This was working successfully on the desktop. However, when I set up the same service and settings on her laptop - using the same settings as with my laptops but for her email address. Immeddiately it removed all the existing Inbox emails. SUbsequent emails were synchronized successfully. She hasn't used the desktop for a couple of months only using the laptop. When she sync'ed on the desktop then all was fine. But then when she turned on the laptop again and opened Outlook then again the inbox was cleared (and can't be found). One of the strange things is that the Outlook.ost & .pst has an update date of mid-July (the current system date is correct as 8th September), Has anyone any ideas? This is really worrying Steve

What protocol is being used on the laptop profile? Sounds like POP3 which pulls all the mail from the server by default ( that can be changed to leave messages on the server)

(I can't see a setting for leaving messages on the server) Steve

Any rules in Outlook that are set to fire on this computer only that may be moving the messages? ( I.e. the laptop when Outlook is opened)

If you have the laptop configured as a pop3 account within Outlook tools email accounts or account setting, once your in Outlooks Email account preference select more settings select the advanced tab verify under the delivery section you select leave a copy on the message server and dont have remove from server selected.

Hi, Please try to access the mailbox via OWA to see if all the emails still be there. Also you can try to use MFCmapi(http://mfcmapi.codeplex.com/) tool to access the mailbox and then check the emails. If yes, then I think you’d better to create a new profile and then snyc OST with the Exchange Server. Besides, I’d like to know if you are using Outlook or Outlook Anywhere. How to create and configure an email profile in Outlook 2010, Outlook 2007, and Outlook 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918 Regards, Xiu
