Journaling questions
Hello, I have taken over an exchange 2013 hybrid setup with employees on premise and students on 365.  I have noticed there is a journal mailbox hat is using 340GB.  What are my best options to decrease this size.  I am new to journaling and am not even sure how you can access this journal mailbox if needed.

I have actually already read through these as I hit up google before submitting to the forum.  But, my journaling was setup by my predecessor and it seems that it shouldn't be near this large.  I would like to shrink it down considerably whether that means trying to remove some of the older files somehow or what to do.

Hi,

Journal mailbox is user mailbox, so you can login this mailbox as user mailbox.

To reduce the size of Journal mailbox, you can use retention policy.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd297955(v=exchg.150).aspx

To check the setting of Journal mailbox, use this command to get a summary list of all journal rules

Get-JournalRule

And use this command to check if it enables journaling for the mailbox database

Get-MailboxDatabase | fl JournalRecipient

Best Regards.

I have changed the retention policy for that mailbox to 1 Year Delete.  That should eventually delete everything from the mailbox older than a year correct?  It might take a couple of days?
