Joining a domain:  LDAP search failed with error 58.
I am attempting to join a Windows Server 2008 computer "NODE1" to my domain WIDGETS.COMThe domain controller is also a Windows Server 2008 machine, named DC.WIDGETS.COMOn NODE1:dcdiag /v /s:DC.WIDGETS.COMDomain Controller DiagnosisPerforming initial setup: *Connecting to directory service on server DC.WIDGETS.COM. [DC.WIDGETS.COM] LDAP search failed with error 58,The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.. ***Error: The machine, DC.WIDGETS.COM could not be contacted, because of a bad net response. Check to make sure that this machine is a domain controller.Executing the same command on my desktop computer succeeds with no errors. What would be the next thing to check? I suspect that this is a firewall issue.Although I have disabled the firewall on NODE1, it is physically a VMWare client withone NIC, bridged to the Gentoo host.I am able to join the Gentoo host to WIDGETS.COM using samba's net ads join. The server lives at a colocation facility with a history of restrictive firewall policies.Any advice would be appreciated.Regards, harold Harold Naparst
