Jet Stress 2010 Assistance
Hello! I am attempting to work with Jet Stress 2010 Beta x64. We want to test our disk subsystem for performance as we havent worked with it or E2K10 previously. The JetStress help file isnt much use as it seems to be the version from Exchange 2007. I also did a global search on the E2K10 forum for JetStress and Jet Stress and got nothing ... I am getting an error in the console on start up - I have tried running it from the mailbox server (didnt think you should do this) and another independent server. In both instances I copied the ese.dll and eseperf.ini, .dll and .hxx files in to the JetStress program directory. When I launch it I get: 3/25/2010 8:00:32 AM -- Microsoft Exchange Server Jetstress Core Engine (version: 14.00.0639.012) detected. 3/25/2010 8:00:32 AM -- Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (6.1.7600.0) detected. 3/25/2010 8:00:32 AM -- Microsoft Exchange Server Database Storage Engine (version: 14.00.0688.000) detected. 3/25/2010 8:00:32 AM -- Microsoft Exchange Server Database Storage Engine Performance Library (version: 14.00.0639.019) detected. 3/25/2010 8:00:32 AM -- ese.dll (14.00.0688.000) and eseperf.dll (14.00.0639.019) versions do not match. Jetstress may not be able to retrieve values from ESE performance counters. 3/25/2010 8:00:34 AM -- MSExchange Database or MSExchange Database ==> Instances performance counter category is not registered. 3/25/2010 8:00:34 AM -- Database Storage Engine Performance Library is successfully registered. 3/25/2010 8:00:34 AM -- A previous installation of the Database Storage Engine Performance objects and counters in C:\Program Files\Exchange Jetstress was successfully uninstalled. If you need to restore that installation, please follow instructions in the Jetstress help file. 3/25/2010 8:00:34 AM -- Database Storage Engine Performance objects and counters are successfully loaded. 3/25/2010 8:00:34 AM -- Advanced Database Storage Engine Performance counters are successfully enabled. 3/25/2010 8:00:34 AM -- This process is required to restart for the changes to take effect. I have rebooted the workstations and re-launched the app. I still continue to get the same message. Any ideas? TIA - Chris Exchange Freak | @ntpro | http://geekswithblogs.net/ntpro

It looks like you've already got Exchange 2010 installed. You should install and run JetStress BEFORE you install Exchange 2010 onto it.Neil Hobson, Exchange MVP

so if I am deploying E2k10 mailbox on a virtual I should run jetstress itself from the same virtual before I install Exchange on it? I was told to run JetStress from another physical and point it at the databases on the virtual E2K10 mailbox server. Not so?Exchange Freak | @ntpro | http://geekswithblogs.net/ntpro

Just make sure that whatever machine you're running JetStress from doesn't have Exchange installed. It looks from your original post that the versions don't match because there's a later version of ese.dllNeil Hobson, Exchange MVP

Hi, The JetStress 2010 is still beta version. The software is not officially supported now. The Jetstress 2010 Help chm has not yet been updated. The chm content is still Jetstress 2007 and does not reflect any change made to Jetstress 2010. As Neil mentioned above, please don't run Jetstress in Exchange server. Besides, from the log file, we could see: 3/25/2010 8:00:32 AM -- ese.dll (14.00.0688.000) and eseperf.dll (14.00.0639.019) versions do not match. Jetstress may not be able to retrieve values from ESE performance counters. So please make sure you copied all ese related files from your Exchange 2010 environment and have the same version.
