Item level Restore (recover): Exchange server 2010
Situation is like that. I`m testing single item restore. Ok i would like to restore single item, like it is written for PS restore-Mailbox : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125218.aspx Now the only think that work is, if i use StartDate, EndDate, IncludeFolders, ExcludeFolders. But nothing works: AllContentKeywords, AttachmentFilenames, ContentKeywords, SubjectKeywords. What i mean nothing works, is that where i restore content, there are no items "mail" there. It does create folders, but that is all. What it work is : Restore-Mailbox -Identity "Sam" -RecoveryDatabase "RestorDatabase" -RecoveryMailbox "Sam" -TargetFolder restor -startDate 01/01/2011 -EndDate 02/01/2011 But niothin like that : Restore-Mailbox -Identity "Sam" -RecoveryDatabase "RestorDatabase" -RecoveryMailbox "Sam" -TargetFolder restor –ContentKeywords "business" And the other think, that i detected is, that i have to enter RecoveryMailbox and Identity. But they are identical.

1. have you read this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332351.aspx and this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff829875.aspx 2. If you are interested in 3rd party products, check out Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp since it can do what you are looking for and without needing to create an RDB. DigiScope can open an offline EDB so that you can Browse, Search, Export to PST, MSG, or XML and can also do direct restores from the offlien EDB to a production server.Troy Werelius www.Lucid8.com

l answers you, directly: New-MailboxExportRequest New-MailboxImportRequest And : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff601762.aspx For time range restore I use : Restore-Mailbox *** -startDate 04/1/2011 -EndDate 05/1/2011 For mailbox and folder restore : New-MailboxExportRequest New-MailboxImportRequest And DPM 2010 Is a joke, from capabilities and price point :-)

Sorry for late response, but I already did all restore procedures. Single item, or let say single mail or attachment restor, for mailbox and item past retention period, has fall out of the dumpster…. You have to use first New-MailboxExportRequest, to export from RDB, it to pst, than you have to use New-MailboxImportRequest, to imported in to mailbox. Hav sum fun with filters, to narrow the results : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff601762.aspx That is correct method, for restoring single item! To restor part of the mailbox, but not only from RDB, you have to us Get-MailboxRestoreRequest, which can restore from folder to entire mailbox, to any mailbox you want. For restore mailbox and or folder from time range, you have to use Restore-Mailbox. It does not restor item, or what you set in filter, it does NOT work. And to put little prospective for Microsoft DPM 2010 SP1 to relation of Exchange 2010 SP1, well old HP Data Never Backkup software, could do from Graphical interface in year 2005 , folder restore, and ArcServer could do before that item restore. DPM 2010 SP1, can`t do nothing of that ! CAN ONLY RESTOR DATABASE, which is equal to Windows backup. I'd is cheaper, to do windows backup of exchange 2010 and use some third party tools to restore item, rather than use " joke of the program called " DPM2010 SP1. You can mark these thread as answered.

I understand your sentiment completely and we do sell allot of DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp to organizations that utilize DPM for Exchange protection for the very reasons you mentioned above. BTW If you or anyone else is looking for a better way to protect Exchange and obtain granular recovery direct from a database level backup without doing mailbox/brick level backups or jumping through a bunch of hoops with RSG/RDB's, check out Lucid8's Exchange Protection Manager http://www.lucid8.com/product/epm.aspTroy Werelius www.Lucid8.com
