Issue with Search index - Exchange 2007 SP1 Rollup 9 CCR
Hi All,We are facing an issue with the search function. All we can get from it using OWA is "No item found".We've tried almost everything:- Delete the catalogs and re-index as per Microsoft kb article Result: Catalogs are recreating, but performance monitor shows that all the indexing is failing No failure in event viewer- Reinstall the Exchange indexer using the MSI Result: install successful, but no indexing...Basically, we've followed all the kb article we were able to find. No positive results.Anybody got an idea, what we should do next?Regards,OllyOlly

What is the output of the Test-ExchangeSearch cmdlet? Also, can you increase the diagnostics logging value of the "MSExchange Search Indexer" category?Neil Hobson, Exchange MVP

Results for the Test-ExchangeSearch:Result found: False SearchTime -1As for the diagnostics logging, it as been increased to 5 for both General and Configuration. Server rebooted to make sure new values are in effect. Rerun the ResetSearchIndex.ps1 still same results in event viewer:Type:InformationEvent Source:MSExchange Search IndexerEvent Category:General Event ID:110Date:2009/10/01Time:5:30:44 PMUser:N/AComputer:PACL01VMDescription:Exchange Search Indexer completed a full crawl (indexing) of Mailbox Database "Database Name"(GUID = 8e3e7ee9-648e-44bc-8997-56a0489a1179). For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.However the index files are still 64kTx Olly

Hopefully someone else may jump in with some detailed troubleshooting that you can do but in the meantime, have you tried creating a new database and seeing if the same problem occurs in a new database? (move a few users across, etc). Just wondering if it's database-specific?Neil Hobson, Exchange MVP

Yes the problem happens also on new databases. We've tried moving an existing mailbox and create a new one. Same issue.Olly

Hi James,Thanks for your input. We've tried method 2 last week and it didn't help. However, I can confirm that Method 1 is working great. Method 1: Re-register MapiProtocolHandlerStub.dll a. Register MapiProtocolHandlerStub.dll regsvr32 MapiProtocolHandlerStub.dll b. Stop the msexchangesearch service c. Delete the catalog folder d. Restart the msexchangesearch service Method 2: remove and re-install the Microsoft Full Text Indexing Engine, please follow the answer of Elvis Wei in this thread Thanks again!Olly
