Issue with Emails going to Junk Email folder

Good Morning,

I have a user who was looking through emails on his phone. He tried to mark the message as unread, but instead hit the option to Block Emails from that domain.  Unfortunately, it is the company domain. Now any internal emails he receives come into his Inbox, but after a certain period of time move to his Junk folder.

Thought it might be something local to his desktop, but when he opens Outlook on another machine, same thing. We are using Outlook 2013, Exchange 2013 and Cached mode.

On the home ribbon, under Junk, Junk E-Mail Option, Safe Senders tab..we added the domain @domain.com.  Even with this the mail is still moving and that entry is being removed.  My next thought is GPO controlling this or something on the Exchange side itself.  It is not stopping his productivity, but is really annoying.  Is there anything else from either the Outlook or Exchange side that I can check?

Thanks

Brian,

The user should be able to Login to OWA and adjust the SPAM / JUNK / BLOCK filter setting there. You should be able to see the entry that was created from his phone and remove it.

Curt,

Thank you for the quick response. We had him log into OWA, Options, Block or Allow.
There were no Blocked Senders defined in there. Also, had him select the option Not Move Email to Junk Folder.

Signed out of OWA, closed Outlook and opened it.  Sent a test email, and same thing happened. Sat in the inbox for about 5 minutes, then moved to Junk Email folder.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.  Realistically, you could work out of there, but his main concern is having to change to his junk folder on his phone to get corporate emails.

The other thing I find odd, is that emails are not going to a the Junk E-Mail folder, but rather to a folder simply called Junk.  Verified that he had no rules setup to move anything to this folder, unless this is new in Outlook 2013.  There is Junk folder and a Junk Email Folder...

Looks like the problem is with his mobile sync. Try to remove email account from all mobile devices and see whether the problem is still there or not.

Hi,

Based on the description, it all started since the domain was blocked on the phone, and you checked on OWA there the domain wasn't blocked. So I agree the issue is actually on the phone instead of Exchange.

I don't think it's controlled by GPO, as mentioned before adding the domain to blocked list there was no issue.

Please temporarily disable or remove the account from the phone, use Outlook client for a while, check if the problem persists.
