Is this supposed to be?
Hi all, Exchange 2003 SP2 Exchange replication tool I tried to replicate from one company A's Public folders to another company B's public folder names Test. Apparently, I can only select one folder to replicate to Test. and I can not select two public folders to this same folder name Test. Is this by design? How should I get around this? Thank you.

You cannot merge the folders using Exchange. Therefore the only way round it is to use Outlook to extract the content of one folder, copy it to the otehr one and then replicate the complete set back. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Hi, The Replication Tool can only be used to replicate free and busy information and public folder content between Exchange organizations. It cannot be used to merge Public Folders as Sembee was mentioned. For more information about the Replication Tool, I would like to share you the following article: Configuring the InterOrg Replication Tool Thanks, NovakPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Can I just select root folder Public Folders to sync each other instead of selecting each folder to sync? Thank you.

Hi Novak, Thanks for the link. Can I select the public Folders (root level) after logon to sync both ways ? or I have to select each folder to sync? thanks.

Try creating each top level folder in your target PF tree and sync each of those. Test using one to see if it works first.

I tested this and it worked. Just wonder whether I can select root folder Public Folders (subfolders) to sync each other ? I create one folder CompanyB in company A and sync all companyB folders by selecting Public Folders of CompanyB and it worked fine, Now, the problem is another way: that I create one folder CompanyA in company B and sync all companyA folders by selecting Public Folders of CompanyA (which includes folders companyB that just synced. How would you deal with this situation? ask your insights and thanks.

Hi, To answer your question, you can select the root Public Folder or several folders to be replicate. Please understand that the Replication tool is made up of two executable. The first one, exscfg.exe, is used to create a configuration file which defines which public folders should be replicated and the settings used for the replication. The second one, exssrv.exe, is used to install the service to do the actual replication. For the detail usage of the tool, I would like to share you the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238573 Hope this helps. Have you setup folder replication ? you have to setup folder replication , on the folder properties, select the other server as the replication server.Thiyagu | MCTS/MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE 2003[Messaging] | http://www.myExchangeWorld.com. If I have to specify each sub folder, it will be insane for this replication to work. Source (Company A) Target (CompanyB) Public Folders Public Folders IT IT (created) Desktop Laptop Projector For replication, do I have to create Desktop, Laptop sub folder etc in the IT folder? Thank you.

Anyone? I am stuck here and it does not make sense that I need to create sub-folders in the target's PF first.

Hi Rich, Thank you. I checked the permision of souce folders IT and subfolders which has the service account pfsync as owner. but, I got this warning when I log on to the seesion in PF tool. Event ID: 1051 Soouce: Exchsync Logon to server "<FQDN server>" has been redirected to server "<NetBIOS server name>" in session "<session name>". This redirection may cause failure to logon to MAPI sessions. Refer to KB article <826449> and change the configuration file. _____________ I can logon without any problem and select folders and create config file. >but I don't recall having to create folders before replicating contents. I should be able to sync root Public Folders from souce and target. then I do not create folders first. I was able to create the config file with both root public folders selected. But, when I sync, I got the warning error what might I miss? thank you.

When you look at the properties of the mailbox database that holds the mailbox for the user you're logging in as, is the default public folder on the same server as the mailbox database? --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

>When you look at the properties of the mailbox database that holds the >mailbox for the user you're logging in as, is the default public >folder on the same server as the mailbox database? Yes. (only one exchange server) Do you recall that you can sync root Public Folders from souce and target? I guess that I do not need to make sure every folder and sub folder under root public folders to have pfsync as owner, but only the folders that need to be repplicated. Thank you.

reason I said to create the subfolders is I had this issue a while back and PSS couldnt figure it out. Everything was done correctly. Permissisions on the folders, blah blah. I was able to create the top level folder and sync each of those individually which would allow replication to work correctly and it would work all the way down the tree if there were sub folders. You shouldnt have to create any folders. And my issue worked by creating only the top level folders like your IT folder. you can use pfdavadmin to be sure the permissions are set correctly.
