Is there a SECURE way to set up POP3 in an Exchange2003 that runs within a domain..?
Hello anyone, need to open and set up POP3 protocol in an Exchange2003 that runs within a domain, without access to the internet, in a secure way, that is, to restrict access to it only to une account. The thing is, we have an application, which uses a POP3 client connector to check and download e-mails in order to procees its attachements (XML files) in an automated way. Any experience taht would help..? Thanks.

Hi, Exchange Server 2003 is a closed relay. In order to support POP and IMAP clients, relaying must be allowed. Then anyone that can authenticate against the domain can send mail using SMTP. Anil

Hi, You can enable POP3 by just starting the service (if it is not already since it is started by default). If you do not open for it in the firewall, you would be a subject of abuse from outside the company. Since you are only wanting to download mails you won't have to open any SMTP relaying on the server, and therefor it should still be secure in that way. I can't remember if you can disable POP3 on each user in Exchange 2003, but I know that it is possible in Exchange 2007 and 2010 so I might be in 2003 as well. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

Hello, Exchange has a POP3 under server\protocols, just turn it on but make sure your firewalls port 110 WAN is closed so no access to the outside. In your firewall packet filter rules, have it drop any traffic on port 110 except for traffic from the server to the host with your application. Hi, To secure POP protocol, you can setup SSL on the protocol and just need open the 995 port on the firewall.
