Is it possible to Remove or Rename E00restore.env on Exchange Server 2007
When I try to restore an email to my mailbox the restore always fails, and the first storage group is dismounted and has to be manually remounted. I've searched the log files and everytime I get an error stating that the signature of the log file does not match the signature in E00restore.env I have run esutil and verified my DB is not in a dirty state, I have also run a defrag with esutil. the only thing i have not done is do a repair using esutil. This is the error that I believe is what my issue revolves around: Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeIS Event Category: Exchange VSS Writer Event ID: 9748 Date: 7/11/2012 Time: 8:25:15 AM User: N/A Computer: MyServer Description: Exchange VSS Writer failed restoring a backup because the signature (0x1b4824-0x70030f0f0521) of the log files in the backup set does not match the log file signature (0x39c852-0x6b091410041b) described in the existing restore environment document 'H:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\E00restore.env'. Is it possible to rename or remove the E00restore.env file?

That file is created by the restoration process. Have you attempted to restore the database? If you have wasted your time doing an offline defrag, then the database signatures are going to be wrong. Personally I would create a new database, move all data to the new database and drop the original. I woudl also use a recovery database to recover the content that you want to a recovery mailbox, rather than a live mailbox as a test. Simon. Thanks Simon. That was pretty much where I was at as well. I will prepare to move the data to a new database. Just one quick question about the file since I think I misread MSDN. Is the file destroyed at the end of a restore? Thanks again, Zach
