Inter-org Replication Tool from Exchange 2K3 on windows 2K3 server to exchange 2K7 on windows server 2K8
Hello all,I have a problem and I need some help. I have an old Forest with WIndows 2003 and Exchange 2003 and a new Forest with Windows 2008 with Exchange 2007 sp1. The new forest has CCR on with 2 Exchange 2007 sp1 servers. In the CCR, I have configured a Public Folder store on a new Storage space.I'm able to ping from Exchange 2003 the NET BIOS name of the Exchange 2007 CCR mailbox name and I have created a trust between the 2 Forests. I've also entered a secondary zone on each servers DNS, with the zone information of the other domainThe objective is to replicate the Public Folders from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007.I have installed the Inter-org Replication tool on the Exchange 2003 server and I have created a service account with a mailbox and a new Public Folder ExchsyncSecurityFolder in each domain and I have assigned Folder Visible permissions to the new service account. On every public folder in the Exchange 2003 domain I have given this new service account owner permissions. When I start the exscfg.exe file, I fill-in the Publisher and Subscriber Organization fields with the proper information and on the Advanced Buttons, I enter the logon information of the service account for each domain. When I click n the Folder List button, I'm able to connect to the Exchange 2003 server, but not on the Exchange 2007 server. I get an error message "Unable to logon to Exchange Server using mailbox information".I made the service account in the Windows 2008 domain, Exchange Administrator and Local administrator on the Exchange server, but to no avail. I can connect to the Exchange server using Outlook 2003 with the service account and I verified the permissions on the Public Folders. I'm running out of ideas. Is is possible that the Inter-org Replication Tool is not compatible with Windows 2008 or that it needs special permissions to connect? Please give me some ideasThanks in advance

Hi,
We find that if you have two or more public folder databases in your organization, then public folder replication is always occurring (even when no folders are configured to replicate). Public folder replication and storage group replication cannot be combined.
Please understand the availability of public folder in CCR environment.
CCR and Public Folder Databases

Since we need to replicate the public folder from Exchange 2003,I recommend you to host the public folder on a stand-alone mailbox server.

Thank you for your reply. I've read the articles and the Public Folder created in CCR is the only Public Folder in the Organization. However, I deleted the Public Folder from the CCR, I created a Public Folder in a stand alone Exchange server in the same Organization and I followed the advice from the article and I have the same problem. I don't understand why it doesn't let me log on to the Exchange 2007 server

Hi,
First please ensure the service account and mailbox that you create must be listed as an owner of each public folder and subfolder you want to replicate, on either the publisher or the subscriber. You can use outlook to grant permission.
You can refer to the below article:
Installing, configuring, and using the InterOrg Replication utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/238573
Then, please double check the below information:
1. Both the forest are having Forest Trust relation. You can try to use ADUC to connect to the other Forest.(ADUC-Action-Connect to Domain)Also you can check Active Directory Domains and Trusts.
2. DNS zone is created in the both the forest.
3. Create a contacts between them by mode of gal sync
Note: We need to sync contacts between these two organization.
Besides, you can follow the below steps to try to troubleshoot this issue.
1. Enable logging on the Public Folders or Free/Busy Session Configuration tabs.
2. Check the Ex00yymmdd.log and Ex01yymmdd.log log files for any errors.
3. Use the application Event Viewer to make sure there are no errors.
4. Verify that you have granted the appropriate permissions to root folders and the ExchsyncSecurity Folder
Please post the error information here for further troubleshooting.

Thnak you for your reply. The only prerequisite I don't have is Forest Trust relation, because the setup here is an empty root Forest and child domains under it. So I heve a 2-way trust between the child domain that Exchange 2007 sp1 resides and he Windows 2003 DC.
However, the problem is while the tool tries to logon to the 2 Exchange servers. I logs on to the Exchange 2003 servers and displays the Public Folders, but not to the Exchange 2007. The service user for the connection with Exchange 2007 has given the role of Domain Admin, Exchange Administrator and Local Administrator!!!!!!. I don't know what else it needs in order to connect to the Exchange 2007 server
