We have two offices (corporate office with one remote branch office). We have a one public domain like xyz.com and installed exchange server 2003 on my corporate office. All our corporate users have mail ID like <users>@xyz.com . My primary MX Record is pointing with my corporate office Exchange server. Now I want to configure new ADC , configuring new AD sites, and install Exchange 2003 on my remote branch office and wants all the users Mail ID like <users>@xyz.com . After installing Exchange in remote office, my all incoming and outgoing mails will relay through my corporate Exchange Server. We have a vpn connection between two offices. So what are all the steps needs to implement the above scenario like how will configure outlook for Remote office roaming users by using remote office exchange server (RPC over HTTP)? How can I access OWA of my remote exchange server from outside? How will setup AD Sites and replication between Exchange servers? How will configure ports in firewall between two sites? …… Please help me………this is very very urgent….thanks…… Saravanan

The best work around here would be At branch office side Install one DC/GC make sure you can well replicate info between Corp and Branch site Install one Windows Member Server for exchange. Install Exchange 2003 and join it to existing Exchange 2003 Admin Group. Apply Hotfix and SP Create Mail box. This Server donot need any thing special such as MX record or OWA settings. Since it wil act as secondary server. The mailbox created under this server will be stamped with xyz.com bcoz recipient policy server will be your corp server. You will have to open port 443, 80 for RPC-Over-Http communication from your branch office. have you already deployed RPC-http? or planning to? If the RPC-HTTP is already in place then it will make your life easy. your user can easily acess mails without doing any vpn. see below how to configure rpc-over-http for outlook clients http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/outlookrpchttp.html In case if you have not deployed the rpc-over-http then you wil have to open few ports on your corp exchange server. see below how to deploy the same. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833401 Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Hi vinod, Hi forum members, Thanks for your response. I have some questions on this above. I didn't implement RPC over HTTP on primary Exchange server? suppose if i want to implement it into secondary server what are all the steps i need to follow? How primary exchange server forwards mails to secondary exchange server if some of the users not present in primary exchange? I have Users A in primary Server and Users B in secondary server. Suppose if external domain users like gmail, hotmail sends mail with wrong email id for e.g. Users C which is not present in both server which server should deliver NDR? or it holds on both queue for time interval? Please provide the best practice for AD replication between sites, I have lease line connectivity between corporate office and branch office with a speed of 512 kbps. How to setup Exchange replication between sites?Additionally please provide port configuration details for AD and Exchange replication? Please reply......Thanks in advance....... Saravanan

Hi Saravanan, Regarding how to deploy RPC over HTTP, please refer to the following article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998950(EXCHG.65).aspx If the topology is as your described, a hotmail user send an email to User C which is not valid address, the original server will generate the NDR. I suggest you deploy a front-end server in your original Exchange site. Regarding the port used in Exchange, please refer to the following article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124075(EXCHG.65).aspx All Exchange configurations are stored in AD. If you're using Public folder, it will use port 25(SMTP) for public folder replication. Thanks, Elvis

For this setting what are all the activities i need to setup in both primary exchange server and second exchange server like mail relay etc..... And also please provide AD sites and services replication configuration and settings best practices between sites (between corporate office and branch office). How exchange servers replication works between sites or for replication whether i need to do any admin work on both exchange servers? Please provide suggestion for this one......thanks in advance....
