Installing exchange 2007 sp1 management tools
I am trying to install Exchange 2007 SP1 management tools on Windows XP SP1. I have two network cards. One is wired connection with static IP and the other is the wireless. During the setup I get the following error: [2/17/2008 9:27:36 PM] [0] **************[2/17/2008 9:27:36 PM] [0] Setup will run the task 'test-setuphealth'[2/17/2008 9:27:36 PM] [1] Setup launched task 'test-setuphealth -DomainController $null -DownloadConfigurationUpdates $true -ExchangeVersion '8.1.240.6' -Roles 'AdminTools' -ScanType 'PrecheckInstall' -SetupRoles 'AdminTools' -TargetDir 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server'' [2/17/2008 9:27:36 PM] [1] Beginning processing.[2/17/2008 9:28:12 PM] [1] [ERROR] This computer is running Windows XP and has not been assigned an IPv4 address. Check the network configuration. IPv6 is only supported in Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 when it is installed on a computer running Windows Server 2008 that has both IPv4 and IPv6 enabled. See http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=102391 for more details.[2/17/2008 9:28:12 PM] [1] Ending processing. I've double checked and verified that IPv4 address is fine and I can communicate with the AD. has anyone else seen this error?

Roman, any reason SP2 isnt installed on the management station? there are a lot of IP fixes in that SP and may resolve your issue. THe other option may be to disable the wireless card, just for the install, and see if that resolves the issue. What is your event view saying as well? Let us know.

Mark, yeah, I do have Windows XP SP2 installed. I mistyped while looking Exchange 2007 SP1 header. I dug a bit deeper. The ExBPA portion returns an error: - <Run ConfigName="ExBPA Master Input File" ConfigVersion="12.11.15.0" Label="" Timeout="120" Threads="25" Operations="collect, analyze" Restriction="AdminTools,Prereqs,PrecheckInstall" StartTime="02/18/2008 20:55:08" AppVersion="3.3.240.6" Completed="OK" EndTime="02/18/2008 20:55:16" ObjectsTracked="0"> <Log Time="20:55:10.575">Starting Collecting Data phase.</Log> <Log Time="20:55:12.653">Error (Provider load failure ) on WMI search SELECT __RELPATH, Caption FROM Win32_NetworkAdapter WHERE AdapterTypeID='0' on scope root\cimv2 on server , skipping object.</Log> <Log Time="20:55:16.277">Completed Collecting Data phase.</Log> <Log Time="20:55:16.323">Error (Rule name 'PreReq_szNodeName' referenced by rule 'PreReq_iPhysicalNodesInCluster' in input file is not defined) in format of rules in configuration file.</Log> <Log Time="20:55:16.323">Error (Rule name 'PreReq_szNodeMailboxInstallation' referenced by rule 'PreReq_iPhysicalNodesWithExchangeInCluster' in input file is not defined) in format of rules in configuration file.</Log> <Log Time="20:55:16.417">Starting Postprocessing Rules phase.</Log> <Log Time="20:55:16.480">Completed Postprocessing Rules phase.</Log> </Run> Running "gwmi Win32_NetworkAdapter" returns Provider Load Failure while running 'gwmi Win32_NetworkAdapterConfiguration -Filter "IPEnabled=True"' executes just fine. This is an OEM install of XP with SP2 x86 shipped with Dell. I have .NET 1.1,2.0wSP1,VS2005 installed. I have not touched any WMI settings. I've got to admit ExBPA has a lot of other stuff which is not super friendly. I'll be looking more into solving that "Provider Load failure"

I solved the problem. Ovbiously the error for gwmi Win32_NetworkAdapter got me worried. I downloaded WmiDiag and deduced that BRCMGroup rpovider fails to be queried and its MOF schema defines children classes to Win32_NetworkAdapter. The provider is associated with Broadcom ASF Management Application which i quickly uninstalled. These apps came with my Dell OEM packaged Win XP SP2. This is probably first time in my career that I felt lazy to rebuild a new laptop and go with conveyor OS. So, the morale of the story for this forum is to double check if your WMI is healthy when installing Exchange 2007 components. WmiDiag is awesome for that task.

Yes Roman, I'm having the same issue yet I am trying to install Exchange '07 SP1 Tools on my system running WinXPProSP3. I haven't been able to find a solution to this as yet and wondered if you found something to resolve it, or if someone else has solved this little dilema? Cheers troysch

Are you getting the same errors from the ExBPA portion of the installer? If so, are you using Dell OEM network diagnostic tools? I think they were Broadcomm ones.
