Installing Outlook 2010 on new computer disk

After a new Windows boot disk installation, I reinstalled Office 2010. Trying to configure outlook to use my existing PST files. Through several iterations I now have my PST attached, named for my email address, and retrieving mail from ISP.  I also have a Outlook data file.  It is marked as DEFAULT under File/Account Settings/DataFile tab.  It is an empty Outlook tree. Can't remove because it is the default.  Can't set my email address data file as default, because that option is disabled.  Thoughts on how to clean this up?  I wanted to get this cleaned up before I added a second email account/pst.

Thanks,

John

Hi,

In step 5, I don't have the options on my screen, to set "Deliver new messages to".  Wonder if there is an Office/Outlook configuration setting that controls that or possibly I'm missing an Office/Outlook software update?

Most likely cause is that you used "auto-discover" when you configured the email account instead of manually configuring the account. Default for "auto-discover" is IMAP which doesn't have that option. You need to configure as a POP email account.

You were correct, I had setup as IMAP instead of POP3.  Works as advertised.... Thank you, JF
