Installing Exchange Server 2007 on Windows Vista 32-bit System
Hi I am TOTALLY new to this kind of stuff. I'm a university student and I'm looking to learn a bit from Microsoft Exchange because I think it will help in the future. I know Exchange Server 2007 was created for 64-bit computers, but I'm trying to install the management tools on a Windows Vista 32-bit System. I keep getting the errors : "Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:37 Management Tools Prerequisites Failed Error: Active Directory does not exist or cannot be contacted. Recommended Action: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=30939&l=en&v=ExBPA.3&id=51e5500d-8b18-4eee-bb8e-925d063b60a1 Error: A reboot from a previous installation is pending. Please restart the system and rerun setup. Error: This computer is not part of a Windows domain. Error: The user is not logged on to a Windows domain Warning: This computer belongs to a single-labeled DNS domain. This is not a recommended configuration, and will not be supported in future versions of Exchange. You should plan to migrate to a fully-qualified domain name. DNS domain name: . Warning: Setup cannot verify that the 'Host' (A) record for this computer exists within the DNS database on server 142.150.1.188. Elapsed Time: 00:00:38 Can someone please show me how to resolve this?

I assume you have installed Exchange 2007? Let's go back to your Exchange management tools first. Are you still getting errors as above? Sukh

Before you can install the management tools on a workstation computer you need to install Exchange server(s) into your Active Directory domain. The workstation needs to be a member of this domain as well. Here's an example of a lab configuration: http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2008/09/03/3406206.aspx I suggest you'd look at Exchange 2010 though if this is for learning purposes

I tried Exchange 2010, but I only have a Windows Vista 32-bit system. All I have is a desktop computer. Will that be enough to set up a basic version of Exchange 2007 for learning purposes?

Hi You will need to install Exchange as mentioned above before you can use the tools to manage it. You cannot install Exchange on Vista 32 bit. But you can install on a 32 bit hardware/OS for training. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719(EXCHG.80).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623.aspx
