Installing Exchange 2007 on Windows 200 domain
Hello everyone, A question regarding Exchange 2007: My client has a Windows 2000-domain, with one W2k server which also have Exchange 2000 on it. To get mobile deivces working, we want to place a Win2k3 64-bit server with Exchange 2007. Sounds easy, but is it? Is it possible to have Exchange 2007 running on a Windows 2000 domain, and can the AD/DC handle the Exchange 2007? What is the best thing to do, keeping in mind that the client only wants to invest in one server.... Regards, Dirk

You need at least one windows 2003 DC in the domain. You can make the new server a dc and exchaneg server but it's not recommended. It does work though.

Use the newer version of adprep (32 bit x86 version from sp1). use the /forestprep and then /domainprep , check event log for errors. If succsessful make the 2k3 server a DC. You might have to transfer the Schema master active directory role over to the new 2k3 dc server. The exchangesetup will tell you and won't let you install untill this is done.
