Installing 32bit Exchange 2007 management console on a 64bit machine
As the title says.. I'm trying to get the 32bit version on a 64bit Windows machine (my development box). Why am I trying to do this? 1) The machine where my app is going to be deployed in the end is 32bit 2) In order for edit and continue to work in Visual Studio, we need to build 32bit binaries. 3) All prerequisites on our side are 32bit too and switching them to 64bit at this point is not an option. In order to run any app that interacts with powershell in x86 mode, I need the 32bit Exchange management parts installed, not the 64bit, so I'm wondering if there's a way to bypass the platform check in the installer.

Hello If the computer on which you install the Exchange management tools has a 32-bit processor and 32-bit operating system, you must install the 32-bit version of the management tools. To download the 64-bit version of the management tools, use the same media or download that you use to install Exchange 2007. you can refer this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232090(EXCHG.80).aspx http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=6BE38633-7248-4532-929B-76E9C677E802&displaylang=en thanks Mhussain Thanks Mhussain

Those tools you linked to refuse to install on a 64bit machine..(they ask you to install the 64bit version.. and of course that does work but then when I run my 32bit app, it cannot load the Exchange commandlets because they're 64bit) but that is exactly what I'm trying to do (see the post above for why I want to do it that way).

Hi Stephan, I don't think you can do that. "If the computer on which you install the Exchange management tools has a 64-bit processor and 64-bit operating system, you must install the 64-bit version of the management tools."Frank Wang

Do you need a 32bit Exchange server in order to use 32bit administration tools? The way I understand it, you can run the normal 64bit Exchange, and administer it from a 32bit OS using the 32bit management tools - if that is correct, all that is required for my scenario to work is bypassing the check in the installer, but I don't know how to do that.

Hi Stephan, "Do you need a 32bit Exchange server in order to use 32bit administration tools" You just need a 32bit OS(not only server) to run the Management Tool. "you can run the normal 64bit Exchange, and administer it from a 32bit OS using the 32bit management tools - if that is correct" This is true: It is supported to install the management tools on a computer that has a 32-bit processor. But I don't think you can install 32bit management Tool on the 64bit client. Maybe you can try to install Virtual PC on the 64bit client, create a 32bit OS, then install 32bit Exchange 2007 Managment Tool on it.Frank Wang
