Installation Instructions for Edge Server Exchange 2010 in Hyper-V
Dell Server Microsoft Hyper-V 2008R2 Server Standalone product Windows 2008R2 SP1 in Virtual Environment Exchange 2010 SP1 in Windows 2008R2 SP1 Virtual Environment Symantec Endpoint Protection 11D Symantec Mail Security for Exchange 6.5 We migrated from Exchange 2003 Server and Windows 2003 File Server to a new box with the above software. We installed the hub transport, but not the edge transport. We want to apply a blacklist to the Exchange Server because Symantec has removed this feature from it's software as Microsoft Exchange 2010 provides an adequate option for adding a blacklist. What functionality are we losing because the Edge Transport is not installed? It appears that the Hub Transport does offer some features for anti-spam. Secondly, if we need the Edge installed, is it required to be installed on a separate box because of Active Directory, and if so, does this require additional licensing? Finally, can someone walk me through the installation if needed since this is on a production server and I have never installed this feature before?Claudia Kulhanek

Edge transport cannot be installed with any other role. Therefore a separate system is required. Personally I don't see the point in Edge - it is a waste of a licence. You don't get much additional functionality, the ability to put the server in a DMZ and address rewriting is it. The antispam modules can be installed on the Hub Transport server simply by running the script to do so and restarting the services. Installation of Edge is no different to the other roles. Install pre-reqs and then run setup.exe and choose the Edge role. All documented on Technet. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

Totally Agree with Simon. EDGE is waste of money and time.Gulab | MCITP: Exchange 2010-2007 | Skype: Gulab.Mallah | Blog: www.ExchangeRanger.Blogspot.com

Hi Claudia This is article about enable antispamagents on HT server. This is article about how to install edge role of exchange. You have installed Symantec Mail Security. So you needn’t install edge server. Microsoft also receives favorable response from clients about EDGE role.
