Install RU5 error: setup ended prematurely
Hi,Already tried the following:- Recreate the ExchangeSetupLogs folder- Applied the workaround for the CRL Download timeout issue (altering the .config files for the service exe's)- Had the same issue on UR4, not sure about UR3.Server:Win2008x64, Exch2k7 with Hub Transport role, Mailbox Store, CAS, UM (not configured yet)The server is a single-server setup with AD/DNS on the box. This is the issue I have: Update installs fine and at the end where it states starting services it hangs for a few minutes and then displays the error 'Update rollup 5 installation ended prematurely'. For me the Transport service is not starting together with the Edge Sync Service and the AntiSpam update service. Starting manually afterwards is no problem at all.The complete log can be downloaded hereThanks for the help!

Hi, 1. Please try to unregister and reregister the "Windows Installer" service on the machine.(Pay attention to if theres another instance under 32-bit.) Note: Detail steps you can refer to the article below: How to troubleshoot Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installation issues http://support.microsoft.com/?id=908077 2. Please run Get-Exchangecertificate |fl to see if the certificate on IIS UM is correct. 3. Please try to run ExBPA to have a health scan and check the report. Besides, please try to uninstall UM role and then install Rollup 5. How to Remove Exchange 2007 Server Roles http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124115.aspx Since I found Error below from the log, please try to attach the ngen.log (C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\\v2.0.50727\NGEN.log) and Servicecontrol.log(c:\exchangesetuplogs) for further troubleshooting. CAQuietExec: Failed to load dependency Microsoft.SpeechServer.VoiceXml of assembly Microsoft.SpeechServer, Version=2.0.3400.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35 because of the following error : The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002) CAQuietExec: Error 0xffffffff: Command line returned an error. Action ended 10:14:04: CA_NGEN_INSTALL_MSH_SNAPIN. Return value 3. Regards, Xiu

Hi,1/ Is it correct that I'll need to perform the re-register of the windows installer service for both 32bit and 64bit?2/ There were two certificates that had the UM assigned, I removed the unneeded one.3/ These are the errors ExBPA gave:- Authenticated Users Group Membership Wrong. It should be member of user group and because of this form-based authentication could fail but we experience no problems and as the Exchange server is a DC I don't feel confortable with adding it to the domain users group?- Enterprise admin missing read permission on OAB folder: corrected this. The other logs can be downloaded hereI will try a reinstallation of the rollup update Saturday.

Hi, 1. If you have both 32-bit and 64-bit,then please unregister 32 bit. We need to use Windows Installer 64-bit to install. 2. Please add the Exchange Server to the domain user group. After that please try to re-run rollup 5 and then check the issue. If the issue still persists, then please check event log. we may can find error event 16023,318. Please try to run reset-antispamupdates.ps1 script from Exchange Management Shell on the server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server. The script is located in the C:\Programs\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts folder, where C:\ is the directory to which Exchange Server was installed. Besides, please apply the hotfix for .NET Framework 2.0 and then re-install rollup 5 again and then check the setup log. A hotfix rollup package is available that resolves the problems that are described in KB articles 913297, 913393, 918995, and 924895 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/926776 Hope it helps. Hi,Here an update from my side:I had other issues with our exchange setup like the OOF assistant that was not working and I installed following packages:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/959209This resolved our issues for the OOF but the Update Rollup installation still failed. I reinstalled the windows installer service without success. Now I removed the UM role and after this the update still does give me the error as before. What I don't understand is that all the services (including the Transport service) are correctly started. This did not happen before.I cannot find the 16023,318 error in the event log.As far as I can see the update rollup installer fails to restart the Distributed Transaction Coordinator. I set the service state to automatic and started and after the installation of the rollup the service is disabled. Also, both the Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN v2.0 services are disabled. Is this normal? Please advice

I had same problem on 2008 server . It was that I ran SCW to lock down server which disable the .Net Framework NGEN x64 service. set to manual and install worked

Finally a solution for this really annoying problem!Yes indeed I also ran the SCW to lock down the server and the services are disabled.I'm still running the update but I'm convinced that this will be the issue. Thumbs up to briandnj for sharing this with us!
