Install Directory Size
Hi all, I'm getting ready to setup/deploy Exchange 2010 (upgrading from 2003). I will have one MBX server and one server with CAS & HT roles installed. I will likely have two volumes on each system for data (one for logs and one for their respective databases and/or working areas), but the one thing I am not certain about is the size of the installation directory/directories. I was thinking about having four total volumes on each (C:\ for Windows, one for the installation of Exchange, one for the databases, and one for logs). If I do it that way, does anyone know about how much space the installation directories themselves take up? (I read in some training materials that Exchange requires at least 1.4GB free.) Again, I am planning on keeping the logs & databases on volumes separate from the installation. Thanks in advance!

Hi, AFAIK your reading is ok and you need at least 1.4 GB free on your drive where you are installing Exchange it's mean your Exchange drive should be minimum of 10 GB as per my practice, because this is requirement not recommendation. I hope this will help you. Regards. Shafaquat Ali.M.C.I.T.P Exchange 2007/2010, M.C.I.T.P Windows Server 2008, M.C.T.S OCS Server 2007 R2, URL: http://blog.WhatDoUC.net Phone: +923008210320

10GB was what I was thinking for the installation volume, initially. Is that generally as big as the installs get that you've done? Given, databases & logs will be on other volumes... Unless I hear otherwise, I'll start with a 10GB LUN for the installation directory/volume, and if necessary, I can expand the LUN and use DISKPART to extend the volume in Windows. Thanks again!
