I would start by reading this documentation: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998636(v=exchg.150).aspx There is also an Exchange Deployment Assistant for 2013 - well, coming soon: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/jj657516.aspx Do you have an existing Exchange environment? 10,000 users is quite a few but user profiles are at least as important as the numbers (number and type of emails received per day, typical size of attachments). There is a mailbox calculator that helps you size your MBX servers but I don't think there is a version for 2013 yet (?). The one for 2010 might still be valid - honestly I'm really not sure about that. This is a recent version.
