Information/procedures on Journaling
Does anyone have a good Internet source of information on how to reconstruct a journal file from Exchange 2007?All the ones that I have come across (example: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997525(EXCHG.65).aspx) specifically leave that out.My goal is to understand what sources of information I could count on if we decided to turn on journaling for select individuals that are subject to Litigation Holds.

Journaling puts the journaled messages into amailbox you designate for that task, usually located in its own mailbox store and sometimes on a separate serverbecause of the volume of activity. There isn't much of anything to help you organize that information once it is there. If you need a real compliance solution you might want to look into some of the the third-party products designed for that purpose.

What do you mean about reconstruct a journal file? If its the organization of the journaling mail in the journaling mailbox as Ed said, you may try to create relevant rules to organize them

What do you mean about reconstruct a journal file? If its the organization of the journaling mail in the journaling mailbox as Ed said, you may try to create relevant rules to organize them Thank you and Ed for replying. I am trying to visualize what Journaling looks like on a practical level. My understanding is if I have to legally hold a person's email, there is a method for starting journaling for that one person (assuming I have a "Journaling Server").After activation, the question is, what does that result of journaling look like? Is it a big log text file with email (for example) listed in sequential order? In the case of email, is there a MS utility for taking that file and making it a .PST? Otherwise, how is is subsequantly of use.Or if I look at that journal, find one message that is pertinent, what can I do? It sounds from Ed's reply that journaling starts making a mailbox just like the original person's, and then perhaps normal methods of procuring and reading it apply. Finally, most importantly, I was trying to find more information that would begin to answer those questions.Right now I am looking for minimal stop-gap until a 3rd party tool can be implemented. Thanks again.
