Individual Message Size Limits - Exchange 2003
Hello, I am running into a problem with message limits on our Exchange server. I would like to allow only certain users to be able to send/receive messages up to 30MBs. I have tried increasing the limit for the individual users in active directory under delivery restrictions, but that has not worked. The global settings> Message Delivery> Defaults> are set to 10MBs I have read that the most restrictive policy applies, so if that is the case it seems the only way to do this is to set the global default to 30MBs and manually change all users back to 10MB except for the few that need to to be at 30MB. That just seems like a lot of extra work. Is there another way to do this? This example from Microsoft shows the individual user mailbox setting overwriting the global setting. Is this possible or am i misinterpreting? Example 2 <script type="text/javascript"> loadTOCNode(3, 'moreinformation'); </script> In this example, the following size limits have been configured: The global setting is set to 2 MB. The Exchange 2000 SMTP connector is set to 5 MB. The SMTP virtual server is set to 2 MB. The user mailbox setting is set to 3 MB. The global setting is 2 MB. Therefore, all the users who are using the default global setting in the Exchange 2000 Server organization or in the Exchange Server 2003 organization are limited to sending and receiving messages that are a maximum of 2 MB. If an individual user has a mailbox setting of 3 MB, that user overrides the global setting. I appreciate the help! Thanks!

Hello, If you wants to allow only certain users to be able to send/receive messages up to 30 MB. Do the following steps: Go to users mailbox setting property in Active directory users & computer and set it as 40900 KB value. Sending & Receiving -- Maximum message size should be same. •The global setting is set to 40900 KB value. •The Exchange 2000 SMTP connector is set to 40900 KB value. •The SMTP virtual server is set to 40900 KB value. •The user mailbox setting is set to 40900 KB value. And then Restart the SMTP & Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine Service. It will fix your issue. MicroSoft Exchange Admin. & Connector EXCHANGE2010, MCSE, MCTS, MCSA MESSAGING, CCNA & GNIIT

Thanks for the reply PKT, but wont this solution increase the Message size for everyone in the company? I would like to have 90% of the users with a 10MB message size limit and the other 10% with a 30MB limit.

Hello, No, only those users will able to send mails with 30 MB size mail, whom you gave permission to send & receive mails on perticular users property. Done worry. And other users will not able to send mails more that 10 MB as it was default size on those users. Try the above setting and check for 30 MB mail.MicroSoft Exchange Admin. & Connector EXCHANGE2010, MCSE, MCTS, MCSA MESSAGING, CCNA & GNIIT

You need to change the Send/Receive message size to achieve this goal. After you increase this value, you can modify the individual user settings.
