In Excel 2007, why is the apostrophe not appearing in the cell after writing it?

Hi,

Why when writing an apostrophe in a cell you need to write something after or it will disappear from the cell?

An apostrophe at the beginning of a cell value is an indicator that the value should be treated as text even if it looka like a number or a date. Such an apostrophe will not be displayed.

If you want to display an apostrophe at the beginning of a cell value, type two apostrophes. Only one will be displayed.

Remark: if your keyboard layout is set to United States - International, an apostrophe will act as a 'dead key' - nothing happens when you type it, but when you type another character it will either be combined with the apostrophe (' + e becomes ) or both the apostrophe and the character appear (' + s becomes 's)
