Hi, Exchange 200x uses the LegacyExchangeDN for every "Exchange activated" (mail-enabled users, public folders, and Exchange system configuration objects) object. LegacyExchangeDN isunique Object Distinguished Name which is used in Exchange 5.5. With Exchange Server 2007,for user it could like below /o=Organizaiton /ou=Exchange Administrative Group(AGname)/cn=Recipients/cn=user For those mailbox database: /o=Organizaiton /ou=Exchange Administrative Group(AGname)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn=Microsoft Priate MDB For Microsoft System Attendant: /o=Organizaiton /ou=Exchange Administrative Group(AGname)/cn=Configuration/cn=Servers/cn= Microsoft System Attendant Please note: all versions of Outlook use the LegacyExchangeDN property when a user delegates access to folders by using the Outlook client. Attribute legacyExchangeDN http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc220061.aspx How to change the legacyExchangeDN attribute in native mode with ADSI Edit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273863 Hope it helps. Thank you for the very thorough explanation of the legacyExchangeDN. However, I am trying to determine how the value "cn=" is determined. If I create a mailbox the legacyExchangeDN attribute is blank til I run the set-mailcontact powershell script. Is it based on mailNickname? I don't think it is CN because I have a user whose CN is John Smith while his legacyExchangeDN reads "cn=jsmith". Thank you.

Yes, you are right. That should be the Exchange Alias. It should be set in Active Directory attribute sAMAccountName, and is stored in Active Directory as the mailNickName. You can double check it in ADSIedit.msc. Hope it helps. Xiu
