In-place upgrade from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012

Planning to in-place upgrade from server 2008 R2 that has Certification Authority running only. How does it work? Is this a smooth transaction? Anything I need to be doing after the upgrade? It's a VM.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance...
