Importing Contact list into Exchange 2003
Maybe I'm trying to simplify this too much, but I need to import a large number of contacts into an Exchange 2003/AD folder. I already have the folder fully populated. In the past we had engaged in a mailbox sync with this partner, but they no longer allow that. The Exchange admin has sent me an Excel file with all his users. I want to import them as contacts into this already populated folder to replace the entries that are there since they are out of date. My thought is to delete all the contacts that are in the folder then import the replacements using csvde. The problem is that all I have from the other admin is the user name and email address. I have looked at several different articles and Internet sites and can't find the minimum number of fields that are needed for a successful import. I assume that I need the DN field as well as things like first name, last name and email address. Do I need others? I notice when I export from AD, I get many many fields and there is a separate line at the top of the export after the field names that is specific to the folder (OU) name. I just want the simplest way to do this. Thanx...Jon

Hi Jon, I understand you want to use the contacts to be used in Global Address list. You may use the first article down here OR You may do that by placing those external contacts into a Public folder. Ref the articles to know how to do that. Ref to: How to use Csvde to import contacts and user objects into Active Directory http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327620 Using Public Folders to Hold Company Contacts http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/MF018.html How to add Public Folder Contacts to the list of Address Books in Outlook so anyone can send e-mail to a shared contact http://uksbsguy.com/blogs/doverton/archive/2007/04/09/how-to-add-public-folder-contacts-to-the-list-of-address-books-in-outlook-so-anyone-can-send-e-mail-to-a-shared-contact.aspx All the Best :) Sathish Kumar Elango | MCSE 2003 & MCSA Messaging | http://msexchangehelp.wordpress.com

I had originally looked at article 327620, but apparently not close enough. I reread it and just made sure that I had what was listed as the minimum for NO email and then added the "mail" field and a couple of others that I wanted and just tried it. Worked perfectly. Thanx...
